Poems Intoxicated By This World.
Emma Young writes earthy poems. Her lines are pressed with the world we know — a tulip bulb, a shoulder blade, grapefruits, wind, waves, sesame seeds on an oiled pan — and her images seep up, like blood through a cloth, or seep through, like light in a fog. “The hay bales are inviting sleep./ Why not stay here, they husk.” Like May Sarton, Mary Oliver, and Basho, Young’s poems are exclamatory, candid, thrilled, intoxicated by this world, and deeply wise. “When you are hot,/remember what it feels like/when you are laughing/and out in the cold.” Young, who is also a designer and printmaker, is poet laureate of West Tisbury on her native Martha’s Vineyard; she’s the youngest poet, at 30, to occupy the role. Her sensual new poetry collection, “Book To Share,’’ just released by Portland, Oregon’s Two Plum Press, gathers work she’s done over the past decade and reveals a voice of penetrating grace. Two Plum Press was pleased to make our 3rd appearance at the APRIL Festival in Seattle. This year, for the first time ever, the festival was actually in April. Aaaaaand it was also the last one ever, so that was kind of a drag. But we had a nice time in a weird back office room with our pals at Octopus Books and Quotidian Press. Some other vendor guy was pouring shots of whiskey. We made a janky "Free Booze!" sign to tempt festival goers into our room. We think it worked about half of the time.

TWO PLUM PRESS AND ANTIQUATED FUTURE CELEBRATE 20 RELEASES EACH, WITH A READING AND MUSIC SHOW AT MOTHER FOUCUALT'S
On the evening of March 11th, 2017, the Two Plum Press reading series RETURNED! With a bang, we think, to celebrate having reached 20 releases in 3 years! We joined forces with our dear pal Joshua James Amberson of Antiquated Future- whose tape label ALSO just arrived at 20 releases!
Each reader and music performer read one Preschool Play from The Collected Plays: 2015-2016 by Portland Preschoolers, as a way to tie the whole evening together, and provide some wacky comic interludes. Chris Maday, whose book Pop was our sleeper hit of 2016, opened the show. This was followed by Izzy Ferguson, whose first book, The First Order Of Business, was one of our early releases and who's new book is in the works. Izzy was followed by Sara Renberg, a musician on Antiquated Future who recently made an e.p. about female publishers. Sara was followed by Michelle Overby, whose first book I Stayed Up Listening we published in 2014, and who's new book I Was The Nostalgia is our most recent release. Michelle was followed by Jordan O'Jordan, a narrative songwriter and performer of astounding brilliance, who's most recent record Through Tough Thoughts came out on Antiquated Future. He shared songs on harmonium and banjo and got us all thinking of the magic all around us.
